FAQs

Do you work with low-income families?

Yes! We do offer a limited number of reduced-rate sessions each week as well as a sliding scale for low-income families on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions, please call our office and we will be happy to discuss this with you individually.

Do you work with insurance?

Yes! We work with insurance as an out-of-network provider and prefer to practice this way in order to ensure the complete confidentiality of our clients. We want you to feel safe while in our care and often times insurance companies can gain highly sensitive information about you if we bill as an in-network provider. We understand that the out-of-pocket cost is initially higher, but you might agree that the benefit of knowing that you will not have a mental health diagnosis that is attached to your medical record is worth that cost.

Can I use my HSP or FSA for counseling services?

Yes! You can pay using your Flexible Spending Account or your Health Savings Plan and still submit a receipt to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.

How do I know that you can work with my unique situation?

We offer free 15-min telephone consults to initially assess special situations, as needed. You may also feel free to email our office or schedule a session. If after your first session you do not feel that we would be a good fit for you just let us know and we will not charge you for that session. Additionally, we would be happy to help you find another therapist that is a better fit for you! The goal is that your needs are met and whatever situation that keeps you stuck is changed so you can live life better tomorrow than yesterday!

How long have you been in practice?

Jessica L. Shepard, MA, LPC has been working as a psychotherapist for over 11 years.
